EPA Drinking Water Standards

EPA standards are in place to provide minimum standards for the quality of water in the USA. These standards do not guarantee the water you consume will not cause long term health issues. Please review the terminology below prior to reviewing the Official EPA National Drinking Water Regulations by clicking the button below.

  • MCLG = Maximum Contaminant Level Goal - This is just a goal and are not limit levels, They are non-enforceable.

  • MCL = Maximum Contaminant Level - Highest contaminant level allowed, They are enforceable

  • MRDL = Maximum Residual Disinfectant level - The highest level of a disinfectant allowed in drinking water

  • MRDLG = Maximum Residual Disinfectant Level Goal - Level of disinfectant which there is no known or expected risk to health and do not reflect the benefits of use to control microbial contaminants

A Few Notable Contaminants

Annual Water Quality Report
EPA requires community water systems to deliver a Consumer Confidence Report (CCR), also known as an annual drinking water quality report, to their customers each year by July 1st. These reports provide Americans information about their local drinking water quality.

If you did not receive this report or need help interpreting it please contact us. If you did not receive your Annual Water Quality Report we will find it and email it to you free of charge inside our service area. If you do not want to call and make the request please fill out this basic form and we will do our best to locate the report and email it to you.

Factors To Keep In Mind

  • Collection and testing methods can vary depending on municipality

  • Disinfectant levels (Chlorine / Chloramine) can change daily depending on the dosage

  • Miles of water infrastructure piping of varying quality could be between the sampling points and your home. This could make the quality of your homes water different from the sampled water.
